Wireless speed shown on the Nic card of client

Dear Experts,

Can someone help me understand that when we connect to wireless, a speed value is shown which is probably the data rate at which i have connected. How this value is derived? My value right now is being show 130 Mbps. I can see its possible due to DRS and i am seeing the values on my nic card (right click -> status) to be 216 Mbps, 270 Mbps and then 300 Mbps. Are these random values? or they belong to any MCS index?

The output from the computer's NIC are "hard coded" (to make it look nice).
The output from the WLC is "dynamic" and is the actual value.

But in my case, the values are changing on windows. Are these values derived from MCS index?
