WLC-2504 High availability

Hello experts,

I am planning to configure HA for 2 x WLC 2504.

I read it was possible only in N+1. that's ok.

But i also read that SSO is not supported for this WLC.

My 1st question is : What is exactly AP SSO and Client SSO ? Is it the capacity for AP and Client to swap from the Active Controller to the Standby ?

My 2nd question is : How do we configure the HA for WLC2504 ? There is no redundancy port so is it over the physical ports ?

Hi,

AP SSO: During an AP SSO, all the AP sessions statefully switch over and all the clients are deauthenticated and reassociated with the new active controller except for the locally switched clients in the FlexConnect mode.

Client SSO: A seamless transition of clients from the active controller to the standby controller is also supported. Clients that are not in the Run state are removed after the switchover. During the stateful switchover of a client (Client SSO), the information of the client is synchronized with the standby controller when the client is associated with the controller or is configured.

Just to be sure. So that means AP SSO will allow the AP's to establish a CAPWAP tunnelwith the Active WLC and share a mirror copy of the AP database with the standby one right ? The AP's will not go into the Discovery state when the Active will fail and the standby will take his place ?

For Client SSO, all the informations about authentication and DHCP are synchronised to the Standby WLC ? So if the Active WLC fails, it will be transparent for the client right ? No deauthentication/desassiociation ?

For WLC2504, if there is not AP SSO and Client SSO, that means the clients will be desconnected for a few minutes ?

Hi,

Yes....

AP SSO:

• AP state is synched
• No SSID downtime

Client SSO:

• Active Client State is synched
• AP state is synched
• No Application downtime

N+1:

• No synchronization
• It work just like two separate controller
