Hi,

I am having two 8510 wlc in HA, it was working fine till now, but now am seeing a message in Redundancy menu that standby controller went into "Maintenance mode" and the message its showing as "default gateway not reachable" .

Can anyone guide how to fix this issue?

HI Zaid,

Which Sw version you are running ?

If the controllers cannot reach each other through the redundant port, the primary controller becomes active and the standby-hot controller goes into the maintenance mode.

These could be the reason:

  • Non reachability to Gateway via Redundant Management Interface
  • WLC with HA SKU which had never discovered peer
  • Redundant Port is down
  • Software version mismatch (WLC which boots up first goes into active mode and the other WLC in Maintenance Mode

Solution:

1. Check the cable connectivity between both WLCs(Redendent ports)

2. The WLC should be rebooted in order to bring it out of Maintenance Mode.

Maintenance Mode

There are few scenarios where the Standby WLC may go into Maintenance Mode and not be able to communicate with the network and peer:

  • Non reachability to Gateway via Redundant Management Interface
  • WLC with HA SKU which had never discovered peer
  • Redundant Port is down
  • Software version mismatch (WLC which boots up first goes into active mode and the other WLC in Maintenance Mode)
  • We recommend that you do not pair two controllers of different hardware models. If they are paired, the higher controller model becomes the active controller and the other controller goes into maintenance mode.
  • If the controllers cannot reach each other through the redundant port and the RMI, the primary controller becomes active and the standby-hot controller goes into the maintenance mode.

Note The WLC should be rebooted in order to bring it out of Maintenance Mode. Only the Console and Service Port is active in Maintenance Mode.
