WLC 9800 - Enable 802.11a

Hi,

we want to use some Klick&Show Dongles for presenting but we can't use them in our WLAN. We did many test and it seems like the are not connecting because there is no 802.11a transmitted.

Can you tell me how to enable this?

Thanks!

- If you don't tweak any RF parameters for the WLAN then you should have 802.11a available ; you can try to
debug these devices using  https://logadvisor.cisco.com/logadvisor/wireless/9800/9800ClientConnectivity , these debugs can be analyzed with Wireless Debug Analyzer

If no debugging can be found at all then : if you know to which AP a particular Dongle
will connect (and or in a test setup) ; issue this command first on the AP:

show  ap client-trace events mac aa:bb:cc:01:02:03 (the latter mac address must of course be changed according to the wireless mac address of the Dongle).
Then during the connecting process (and later) follow up on the outputs shown or check the logs on the AP

    - Outputs from the commands mentioned in https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/catalyst-9800-series-wireless-controllers/217738-monitor-catalyst-9800-kpis-key-performa.html#toc-hId-866973845 can also be useful

have a checkup of the  WLC  9800 configuration with the CLI command show tech wireless and feed the output to : Wireless Config Analyzer
                                        Always mandatory !

  M.

Doesn't the dongle have to connect to its own receiver/ap?

Talk to the manufacturer because their product documentation is making me uneasy.

Under "Network Standard" it states:

IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11n , IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11n , IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11n

Uh-huh.  Suuuuuuuuuuuuuure.

If the dongles do not join 5.0 Ghz, then there is a strong chance it can only support 2.4 Ghz and even the manufacturer does not know this fact.

it seems like the are not connecting because there is no 802.11a transmitted.
How exactly did you come to that conclusion?

As others have pointed out 802.11a (5GHz) is generally enabled by default on all APs supported by 9800.

I agree with Scott - looking at their documentation it looks like their products are mainly intended to connect to their own base units - not to APs.

What are the exact pieces of K&S hardware you are using?
What model of 9800 WLC are you using?
What model of AP are you using?
What version of software is your 9800 running?

Like Leo says you should be talking to the supplier/manufacturer of the K&S product for support - really only they can help you work out how their product works.  This is very unlikely to be a problem with the 9800 or Cisco APs.
