WLC License

Currently i use WLC series 2504 to manage AP model 2700 and 3700. With this WLC we need license in the controller.

Next i will upgrade the WLC to C9800 and will buy some AP model C9115.

As i know for AP C9115 the WLC no need any license since the license needed only in AP side, then i have another requirement to use old AP version. With this scenario where the WLC will handle old AP 2700, 3700 and newer AP C9115 from the WLC perspective is needed license? Or we can install like DNA license in the AP 2700, 3700?

Well, first off, you should be okay with license, but always talk with your Cisco Accout team.  You might need to purchase some license for support and to be in compliance.  They should be able to help you and or figure out what is best for you during this migration.  Now keep in mind that what ap's are supported is able based on what code you need or will be running.

The 2700's are supported up until Cisco IOS XE 17.12.4 but the 3800's are also supported in that code version.

Cisco will be announcing the End-of-Sale/End-of-Life of 910x, 911x, 912x and 9130 in the eight months.  The replacement of the "low quality cost" 910x, 911x, 912x will be soon-to-be-announced Catalyst 9172/9174.

haha.... low cost:)

The controller itself does not need a license but the controller will request DNA licenses, for each AP, from Smart Licensing.
So if you have 200 APs (regardless of AP model) then you need 200 DNA licenses.
If you have bought the new APs with licenses then you just need to buy the licenses for the the old APs.
