WLC Question

Is there a way to force a client to join a specific AP?

We have a WLC and 32 APs.  I am sending one out to another remote office, but would like to test that everything works by having a client join it.

However even though it's the closest one, I still end up joining another ap.  So is there a way to do this without causing an interruption to people already joined?

Thank you.

You would do this from the client side not the WLC side. If you are using an Intel card you can specify an AP with the Intel Proset Tools.

Will be called something like preferred AP in the client setup.

You can try to disable lower data rates to shrink the cell size done. Another way is enable load balancing, but that has issues with client devices that don't support code 17. I wouldn't use that unless you do some testing first. Both these option should be done after hours as it will have an affect on connected clients.
