I have a customer with more than 1800 350 series APs running VxWorks. They want/need to upgrade to IOS, so WLSE seemed like a no-brainer. However, they had had a demo unit at some time in the past and wrote it off as garbage. Consequentially, they are not willing to consider it for this project.
Is there something between CAC and WLSE? Even an alternate method, anything that could be somewhat automated or scripted would help.
Thanks

It depends upon what specific functionality you're looking for. CiscoWorks also manmages APs, but does not do any Radio Management features etc which only WLSE does.

Specifically I am looking to upgrade all of them from VxWorks to IOS and load configurations. Yes, I know this is what WLSE is for, but like I said, the customer has decided they don't like that particular solution.
I would think that this should be possible through SNMP, but am having a hard time finding the information I need.

If you just want to do the conversion from VxWorks to IOS, then use CAC Tool which also works well. Cannot do the conversion using SNMP.

Well, I may have to. It's just that the CAC does not scale very well when you have hundreds to do.
As best I can tell, there is no reason SNMP can't work. I would guess this is what WLSE uses for batch upgrades.
I will work on that some more.
Thanks

WLSE 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 were garbage. I kept it around until they woke up and 2.5 is a nice product.
Alternatively, I also use MobileManager Wavelink that does a good job of converting VxWorks to IOS.
As a side note, MM requires DLINK clients to do "automatic" rogue detection, and Cisco requires, yep, you guessed it, Cisco cards with Cisco extensions. Neither is realistic, especially given Cisco's ignorance of the popularity of CF wireless cards in PDA's.
