ASR 9K RSP-4G replacement question

We have an ASR9K with a failed RSP running 4.2, gives intermittent memory error and then goes NSF not ready, after a while it goes nsf ready again. if I replace the card with one from our lab running older software (4.1), will the card auto upgrade when I plug it in or will I have to upgrade the card first before installing.

Hi PJ,

no, the new RSP will not be auto upgraded after installing.

You can upgrade the code in the lab before the replacement.

thanks for the quick response, i searched but couldnt find any usefull info on cisco's website. I was hopfull that i wouldn't have to upgrade the box in the lab

what do people do when they have to RMA a card and the RMA arives on an older version of software if they dont have a spare to upgrade the software.

So I decided to give it a test and insert the card with the older software. The 9K automatically upgraded the software, as the card was inserted it booted into romon and then did an internal software upgrade from 127.0.1.4 via tftp download

I think this should be upgrade automatically, since I know CRS-1 will upgrade automatically when u insert a new RSP with a different version from the active one.
