hitless fpd upgrade - does this actually work?

On Tomahawk and newer line cards for ASR9K, the line cards are advertised to have "hitless fpd upgrade" capability.

How does one actually perform 'hitless fpd upgrade' on Tomahawk line card?  Simply running 'admin upgrade hw-mod fpd all location 0/X/CPU0' still requires me to reload the line card for the new version to take effect.

Most FPDs on Tomahawk support hitless FPD upgrade. The procedure to initiate the upgrade remains the same. Depending on which FPDs need to be upgraded, LC reload may or may not be required.

So after I performed FPD upgrade, when running 'show hw-mod fpd location all', the new version does not show up on the line card until I reload that LC.

Is it perhaps because the FPD upgrade in this case was a mandatory reboot-required upgrade?  This was on A9K-24X10GE-1G-SE card (Powerglide), on cXR 6.2.25

Some FPDs on the LC cannot be upgraded without reload. This is true for all Tomahawk LCs, including Powerglide.

You can check the FPD versions packaged in the installation if you run the "admin show  fpd package". It's a long list, you'll find the Powerglide somewhere towards the end. That way you can compare the current to the desired version for each FPD.
