Hi

Currently I have 4 slots occupied by the following cards on ASR9000:

Slot 0 – A9K-8T-L
Slot 1 – A9K-8T-L
Slot 2 - A9K-2T20GE-L
Slot 3 – A9K-2T20GE-L

have VRFs configured on different ports within each card, the installation process was carried license type A9K-AIP-LIC-B but only on slots whit line card A9K-2T20GE-L is possible to observe that license are that used. e.g.

RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:ED_MEX_2#sho license   (ASR 2)

Mon Dec  2 12:30:55.123 pst

FeatureID: A9K-AIP-LIC-B (Slot based, Permanent)

  Total licenses 4

  Available for use         2

  Allocated to location     0

  Active                    2

  Store name             Permanent

  Store index               1

    Pool: Owner

      Total licenses in pool: 4

      Status: Available     2    Operational:    2

      Locations with licenses: (Active/Allocated) [SDR]

              0/2/CPU0        (1/0) [Owner]

              0/3/CPU0        (1/0) [Owner]

if I try to make the assignment of the license to a slot that does not have no notice that the license is assigned, the follow procedure we used to assigne the license to slot.

RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:ED_MEX_2(admin-config)# license A9K-AIP-LIC-B location 0/0/CPU0

but the show license is the same

FeatureID: A9K-AIP-LIC-B (Slot based, Permanent)

  Total licenses 4

  Available for use         2

  Allocated to location     0

  Active                    2

  Store name             Permanent

  Store index               1

    Pool: Owner

      Total licenses in pool: 4

      Status: Available     2    Operational:    2

      Locations with licenses: (Active/Allocated) [SDR]

              0/2/CPU0        (1/0) [Owner]

              0/3/CPU0        (1/0) [Owner]

only have the owner on slots 2 and 3.

This is a possible error on IOS that need it to upgrade with SMU or licenses can only be used with slots containing VRFs contained above the base license?

Best Regards

Hi,

I believe your last statement answers your questions 'licenses can only be used with slots containing VRFs contained above the base license'. In order for this license to apply we have to hit a conditional-trigger, that being the configuration of VRFs on physical interfaces of the LC.

Some follow up questions if the above does not apply in your situation:

How many unique VRFs are applied for each LC? A fairly simple way to check is with 'show ipv4 vrf all int bri | ex default'

What code are you running?

HTH,

Sam
