Hey !
I want to upgrade from 4.3.4 SP3 to 4.3.4 SP8. Here´s my "show install committed summary" :
Default Profile:
SDRs:
Owner
Committed Packages:
disk0:asr9k-mini-px-4.3.4
disk0:asr9k-base-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:iosxr-mgbl-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:iosxr-ce-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:asr9k-fwding-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:asr9k-cpp-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:iosxr-routing-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:iosxr-fwding-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:asr9k-os-mbi-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:iosxr-mpls-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:iosxr-infra-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:asr9k-fpd-px-4.3.4
disk0:asr9k-mgbl-px-4.3.4
disk0:asr9k-mpls-px-4.3.4
disk0:asr9k-k9sec-px-4.3.4
disk0:asr9k-asr901-nV-px-4.3.4
disk0:asr9k-9000v-nV-px-4.3.4
disk0:asr9k-px-4.3.4.CSCui95665-1.0.0
My Questions :
1.) Do i need to uninstall something in advance ? (like asr9k-px-4.3.4.CSCui95665-1.0.0)
2.) Or do i just need to "admin install add <link to asr9k-px-4.3.4.sp8.pie> ?
3.) What "cleanup" do i need to do after "install activate/admin install commit" ?
Cheers,

It is superseded by SP8 so you should be able to just install SP8.
After that it will be installed but inactive, just use install remove inactive or install remove disk0:<dir> to remove it from the disk.

What does show install active look like?
Have you done install commit yet?
Show does install deactivate inactive give you as the ones that will be deactivated?
I have some time this afternoon to take a look with you, email me and we can do a quick WebEx.

No risk no fun.
What i did now :
.) "admin install deactivate disk0:*4.3.4.sp3* syn"
.) "admin install remove inactive synch"
Now it looks clean :

Hi David, I pretty much did the same but I forgot to deactivate and remove SP3. I'd like to know if the router rebooted after deactivating and removing SP3?
Thanks,
Farhan

A deactivate should trigger a reload (SPs are reloads), removal has no impact on the currently running software so no reload.

Farhan,
To be clear, if you have upgraded to SP8 and you want to remove SP3, this is the workflow and no reload is required to remove SP3.
1) Running SP3
2) Upgrade to SP8
3) #install commit (this will commit SP8 and move SP3 to removable inactive list)
4) #install remove inactive (This will remove SP3 from the system)
Done :)
Eddie.

Thank you Sam and Eddie! Appreciate your input.
Thanks,

Hey Farhan,
Check what is activated on the box.
When typing in *admin show install activated summary* and no SP3-File is mentioned in the output you can go ahead and deactivate and remove the files.
Just be sure you don´t deactivate and/or remove files which are curretly flagged as active and you should be fine.
Cheers,
David

Or can use show install superseded that would display whats superseded and can be safely removed and the removal is hitless even if installing it was reload.

Need to re-activate this discussion.
I noticed that the pre-SP-SMU wasn´t installed on this box (CSCul582469) before upgrading to SP8. Is it necessary to install CSCul582469-SMU before SP8 ?
I´m asking since SP8 superceeds the SMU.
For example i have the following activated on a box :
admin show install active summary
Tue Oct 20 08:35:18.652 CET
Default Profile:
SDRs:
Owner
Active Packages:
disk0:asr9k-mini-px-4.3.4
disk0:asr9k-base-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:iosxr-mgbl-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:iosxr-ce-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:asr9k-fwding-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:asr9k-cpp-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:iosxr-routing-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:iosxr-fwding-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:asr9k-os-mbi-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:iosxr-mpls-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:iosxr-infra-4.3.4.sp3-1.0.0
disk0:asr9k-fpd-px-4.3.4
disk0:asr9k-mgbl-px-4.3.4
disk0:asr9k-mpls-px-4.3.4
disk0:asr9k-k9sec-px-4.3.4
disk0:asr9k-9000v-nV-px-4.3.4
disk0:asr9k-px-4.3.4.CSCui95665-1.0.0
disk0:asr9k-px-4.3.4.CSCut30136-1.0.0
As you can see, the SP3 was installed without the pre-SP-SMU. Can i now just upgrade to SP8 and averything works fine ? Or do i have to deactivate SP3, install CSCul582469 and after that upgrade to SP8 ?
Or can i just upgrade to SP8 and everything is ok ?
Cheers,

David, no need to remove SP3 to install SP8, you can just installed SP8. it will supersede SP3 and CSCul582469. Once you move to 5.1.3+ you won't need to work about the SP enablement SMU, those releases understand the SP concept.
