We have users that show in the chat rooms as Mike@freakshow.local. Is there a way to eliminate the @freakshow.local piece so only Mike displays?

Are the chat room participants local IM&P users or external XMPP federated contacts?
Do those same users have a clean display name on your buddy list or also display the XMPP JID there?

They are local IM&P users and yes the display name is clean

I'm honestly at loss here. I'm looking at a Jabber 11.7(1) with IM&P 11.5(1)SU2 instance right now. The chat room participants are shown by display name in both the roster and per-IM. This customer is using UDS as the contact source, though I doubt that matters.

Jonathan - I think I've figured out what is going on. The servers have a domain of home.local. LDAP is home.com. This is where I believe the problem is. The servers should have the home.com domain. Do you agree?

The LDAP and IM&P servers can be in different domains. It's just important that Jabber and the IM&P servers can perform DNS lookups. So, if it's presence1.home.local then Jabber needs to be able to get the A and PTR record for that from DNS.

The issue they have been having is 2 contacts for every person. So there is a chat contact and a phone contact (depending on whether it's home.local or home.com, for example). Their IM address is jack@home.local and the directory uri shows as jack@home.com. I think I should be changing the domain on the presence server - Presence-->Domain menu. It also makes me curious if this is the reason the persistent chat rooms randomly disappear.
