I would like to get the inbound caller ID from the jabber client on any PC. I want to use it so i can integrate into my own systems. I want to use the phone number to access other data and automatically pop it up on screen in a similar way that jabber does.

Hi John,
This is a customized solution that you are planning. You may need the help of Dev team to create such a solution

Hi John,
not very sure on the requirement you have. You could check if directory look up rule can help you:

I am sorry to repeat myself but is there a way to obtain the phone number from an inbound call from my voip system (the one displayed on my jabber client). I am usually a desktop systems developer so I have no experience working with voip phones.
