Jabber for Mac and CME

Have a situation where I need to deploy Jabber for Mac in phone-only mode with CME.  Based on the documentation I'm able to find, it appears as it's not possible.  So a couple questions come to mind:

1) Is this still accurate, assuming CME 10.5 and the latest 10.X release of Jabber for Mac

2) If this is accurate, given that the client needs an IM/P server, this would effectively require CUCM as well, correct?

3) Is there any kind of workaround for this type of situation?  Client is looking for softphone that's capable of video (the main reason for looking at Jabber).

Appreciate any insight the group can provide

  • Phone only mode—Cisco Jabber for Mac supports Phone only deployments. The user's primary authentication is to Cisco Unified Communications Manager. Deploy phone mode by provisioning users with devices for voice and video capabilities. Optionally configure additional services such as voicemail.

And from CME docs

I'd probably give the above combination a try in the lab.
