Jabber IM Video

Hello everyone,

We just started up Jabber here at our company and are trying to migrate from Office Communicator to Jabber.  We got the phones working but can't seem to get the video to work.  Our CUCM is 8.6.1(2) and CUPS is 8.6.1.  We installed Jabber 9.0.5.  Webex works fine, phone calls work fine, IM's work fine but the video does not as stated.  The problem first off is that in the options there isn't even a video tab to select the video camera we want to use.  I was looking in the documentation and it appears that only two cameras are supported?  Even if this is the case, shouldn't the tab at least be there like the audio tab?  Or does Jabber need to physically detect one of these two cameras?  Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi,

In Jabber 9.0.5 you only get video when in Softphone mode (CSF device in cucm). A later version (okt/nov??) will add video when just using a desk phone.

Regards.

Jabber will work with most cameras as long as they register as a normal webcam to Windows. The two listed are just what Cisco explicitly tested. If you don't see a video tab that means Jabber didn't see the camera. Check to see if other programs (e.g. Skype) can see the camera. Perhaps update the drvers if the manufacturer provides any.

Also, Jabber 9.1(0) has been released for Windows now. This does support CAST-based deskphone video with 7900 series phones. For it to work you must also install the Media Services Interface client (aka Medianet client). This is what provides the CDP driver for the phone to discover the PC.
