Why is webex dependent on the operating system ?

I recently started to get the following message when trying to join WebEx from Internet Explorer 8 on a Win XP laptop. But I wonder why a browser based collaboration tool is depending on the Operating System ?

Is there a workaround ?

You cannot use WebEx because your operating system is not supported. We recommend that you upgrade to a supported operating system. Refer to the WebEx release notes for information about supported operating systems

This is where you enter the magical word of marketing...

WebEx is web "based" in that:

• Your initial access is via a web browser.
• The communication happens over a HTTP connection.

Really, thought, the main WebEx client is a binary and you get a different binary depending on your platform.
