The local Cisco reps are telling us that with CRS 3.5, the license for ip phone agent versus the CAD are interchangable? Can anyone confirm this and if this is the case, is there any license conversion that has to take place or can I go ahead and load the phone agent?

Hi,

For each IPCC Express 3.5 Seat orderer you can use IP Phone Agent without havind to buy any additionnal license

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/sw/custcosw/ps1846/products_data_sheet09186a008019ade0.html

But be aware that Cisco says it is for backup purposes only. It means that the agent has to use Cisco Agent Desktop and can use IP Phone Agent when CAD is no longer available.

Marc

Hi,

I am also in the same situation.

Client purchased CAD licenses. However, they are going to use IP Phone Agents primarily and not CAD.

I am also, trying to find out, if CAD licenses are interchangeable with IP phone agent licenses.

PS - During installation, after the license key is processed by the system, it shows there are 0 IP phone agent license.

May be I need to open a TAC case to confirm this. Does anyone know ?

Thanks

Here is Cisco Notes about IP Phone Agent :

from "Cisco IPCC Express Overview - Customer-Facing Presentation"

http://www.cisco.com/application/vnd.ms-powerpoint/en/us/partner/products/ps1846/c1161/ccmigration_09186a008019ade3.ppt

"Using the XML interface supported by the 7940/7960 phones, we have developed ACD functionality on the IP Phone. Agents use the services key to log in/out, change state (ready/not ready). Supervisors can view agent state, change agent state and silent monitor agents, as well as log in and take calls.

This phone is meant to be used as an alternative to an agent workstation, and can be used as a back-up to the agent workstation in case of PC failure. Note that agents will have to log into IP Phone after PC failure, it is not automatic.

Also note that agents must go into the services mode to view their current state, it is not displayed on the phone."

IPCC Express 3.5 does no longer make any difference bewteen licenses because it introcued seat licensing.

Everything is explained in the "Cisco CCBU Price List" :

http://www.cisco.com/application/pdf/en/us/partner/products/ps1844/c1758/ccmigration_09186a00801aee46.pdf

So, you can try to configure IP Phone agent :

Cisco Desktop Product Suite Installation Guide (ICD 4.5(5) - PDF)

http://www.cisco.com/application/pdf/en/us/guest/products/ps1846/c1097/ccmigration_09186a00801f028a.pdf

chapter "Configuring Cisco CallManager IP Phones to Work With IP Phone Agent"

If it does not work then you can open a TAC case.

Thanks Marc.

I heard the samething from another Engineer as well.

From 3.5.x onwards, you no longer need to worry about seperate licensing for IP Phone Agent vs. CAD.

I think, I am all set now.

Thanks for the post!!

My customer has received an upgraded 3.1 to 3.5 CRS key from Cisco. Do we have to re-run the CRS setup again to install the new 3.5 key?

Hi,

You have to upgrade the server so you have to run the setup again. Please be sure to make a backup of your scripts and configuration before, just in case...

By the way you also have to upgrade the CCM to 4.O

Marc
