Yes, SM acts just like a standard email client so you could have multiple clients for that mailbox. My recommendation is that you have the email server automatically copy emails into SM box into another mailbox and you use your email client to read that mailbox. This minimizes the opportunity for someone to be logged in to the mailbox and delete an email before SM can get to it.
