Hi All,

While disabling TCP offloading on Windows 2008 servers, do we need to apply any MS patches?

Regards,

Adithya

Hi Goeff,

Thanks for the reply.

Then we just need tp disable the ipv4 offloading settings in the NIC configuration right? do we need to change anything on the registry?

Adithya

Hi, I was given this by TAC earlier today...but it is for Windows 2003:

Hi Niall,

Yes right...The MS patch is applicable for 2003 servers. Not for 2008 servers.

Adithya

Hi Geoff,

In 2008 we have 3 offload parameters for IPV4. i.e checksum offload, large send offload and TCP connection offload. After disabling these 3 do we need to add any registry to disable the offload parameters globally?

P.S : for 2003 we added a registry called

  • dword DisableTaskOffload = 1 in the below path
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

Thanks and Regards,

Adithya

I was sure there were more than just 3 things to change on the NIC. I don't have access to my W2008 servers until I get to work, but I recall more than 3 things. Isn't there also Rx and Tx settings and RSS?

Regards,

Geoff
