UCCE 9 - How do you make Side B of the duplex pair the master rather than Side A

Hi all,

I have a customer with a Duplexed UCCE 9 install that is running from two geographically independent Data Centres.  So for example Side A is in DC1 and Side B is in DC2.  Side A is making the final routing decision whilst in normal operation.  From memory I believe that the amount of PGs the Router registers has an impact on the fact that Side A is seen to be the master in the decision making process.

On Side A (DC1) the PG numbers look like this

PG1A - CTI OS, CUCM

PG2A - Finesse PG

PG3A - CVP

PG3B - CVP

On Side B (DC2) the PG numbers look like this

PG1B - CTI OS, CUCM

PG4A - CVP

PG4B - CVP

DC1 is currently the Prime site for processing of the customers estate, with DC2 acting as the back up/DR Data Centre. The customer wishes to change the Data Centre priority around so that DC2 becomes the Prime site with DC1 becoming the back up/DR site.

To achieve this and make Side B of the platform the master decision maker, what is the best approach?

Many thanks in advance

John

I recommend you read the UCCE SRND any version really will work as Cisco doesn't officially releases SRNDs anymore. This document will explain to you how UCCE redundancy works. Your understanding is not correct on how the system is supposed to work and the PG setup you're talking about is commonly referred to as a dummy PG.

Do a little bit of background research and then come back with a more specific question.

Hi John-

Here is the link to the UCCE Design Guides that David was talking about:

    Thanks both for responding.

Yes I was aware of the Dummy PG scenario.  I will have a read of the SRND in a bit more detail.

So having read the SRND I believe that my question is how to make the Side B MDS process on the Call Router the 'enabled synchronizer' in the pair permanently rather than the MDS process on Side A and what is the wider impact of undertaking this if any?

I hope this makes more sense now?

Thanks for your on going advise

    John
