UCCX VM Restored from Tape backup

Matthew Martin

Hello All,

A couple of years back my company decided to move to another Contact Center software. Our UCCX servers were running as VMs in VMware. We recently received a request to be able to get historical data from the UCCX server.

The issue is we deleted the server a LONG time ago, so we had to call our data storage company and they delivered the VM tape backup containing the UCCX Publisher. We were actually able to get the server restored and booted. However, what seems odd is it didn't come back up with an IP Address.

In trying to configure an IP I see the following error:
"Failed to determine if IP address is already in use by another host"

The configuration for UCCX is still there in our DNS server... I had seen some posts about setting UCCX IPs and making sure the DNS configuration existed before configuring the servers.

Is there a better way to go about this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in Advance,
Matt

I think that means you need to remove that NIC and add one with a supported type (VMXNET3 or perhaps VMXNET2).

That sounds more like the NIC associated with the virtual machine isn't mapped correctly or the default gateway IP it is using doesn't exist. Check the networking setup in ESXi.

Hey Elliot, thanks for the reply.

So we tried moving the VM to another cluster that we know was working prior to this UCCX server being shutdown. But, still no luck and getting the same error message.

Then, I just changed the Network of the VM to a Vlan that I know is working. I'm seeing about 20+ VMs currently using this Vlan. And, same error message as before:

Executed command unsuccessfully
failed to determine if IP address is already in use by another host.

The error seems very odd... Searching online for this exact error gives me basically nothing...

Any other ideas?

Is the VM still using an E1000 NIC? This could be a problem. All of the VM's have shifted to a VMXNET3 NIC going forward.

It's showing as a VMXNET.

If I try to click on that Adapter Type dropdown, I get the red circle with a line through it...

What's odd is I don't see the VM's Mac Address appear on the switches Mac-Table. Figured I'd at least see that show up on the switch.

I think that means you need to remove that NIC and add one with a supported type (VMXNET3 or perhaps VMXNET2).

Thanks Elliot,

So I tried to add a new Network Adapter and the only options are E1000, Flexible and VMXNET. I should say that VMware was upgraded hardware and software between when UCCX was shutdown and when we tried to reload it the other day. So maybe its just a adapter compatibility issue.

At this point, we're just going to try and mount the VM's VHD to a linux vm and grab all the raw data for the database and see if the firm we're using can do anything with that...

Thanks again for all your help and you time. Very much appreciated!

You are welcome. My memory is blurring, so perhaps it is the 'Flexible' type that is no longer supported. Maybe you could do it with E1000. I think the not supported part was an ESXi thing, not a Cisco thing. This is a bit dated though.

Looks like you were spot on...

I decided to give it one more look. I went into VM Options and changed the OS Type to RedHat 6 (*for some reason I guess it defaulted to RedHat 4 32 bit), and then I went back and added a new network adapter.
This time VMXNET3 was an option. Chose that and powered on and networking connected right away and it still had the original IP Address too.

So all good! Thanks again for the assistance.
