UCM - UCCX compatibiity

looking at the compatibility matrix, uccx version 8.5(1su2) is only compatible up and including UCM 8.6(2a)su3 yet 8.6(2a)su5 is available. Can someone confirm if the matrix is out of date or that IS the case and SU5 is NOT compatible?

Thanks

Hi Paul-

It appears to not be supported.  I see references to .6(2a)su4 in the UCCX 9.0(2)SU2 compatibility matrix and it looks like the UCCX 8.5(1)SU2 matrix has been updated several times since 8.6(2a)su5 came out.

Apparently it is. Cisco obviously behind in their documentation - shame really as it would have stopped a TAC case if it was up to date.

Hi Paul,

The compatibility matrix is updated based on the UCCX and the CUCM versions qualified. When a particular version of UCCX is released, it is qualified with the CUCM versions available and posted on the compatibility matrix.

The thumb rule is all the corresponding SU's and ES's of a particular Call manager version is presumed qualified if the parent version is qualified.

The reason why the compatibility matrix will not be updated is because the newer SU's are presumed qualified but will not undergo the same amount of rigorous testing as with the main version during the release.

Hi Arundeep-

"The thumb rule is all the corresponding SU's and ES's of a particular Call manager version is presumed qualified if the parent version is qualified.

The reason why the compatibility matrix will not be updated is because the newer SU's are presumed qualified but will not undergo the same amount of rigorous testing as with the main version during the release."

Could that bit of information be conveyed on the Compatibility Matrix?

The note I see states: "1. All the Engineering Special releases of Cisco Unified Communications Manager are qualified with Unified CCX if the corresponding Service Update version of the Unified CM is qualified with Unified CCX."

http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_CCX_Software_Compatibility_Matrix_for_9.0(2)_SU2

http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_CCX_Software_Compatibility_Matrix_for_10.5(1)_SU1

Based on that note I would not expect Service Updates to be supported, but rather only the Engineering Specials of a Service Updated that is listed in the Matrix.

Also, what is the definition of 'the parent version'?  Would 10.x be the parent or would 10.0, 10.5, and 10.6 be parent versions?

The other confusing bit about your statement is if the case is that all SUs are supported if the parent version is support why are any SUs listed at all?

Thanks,

DJ

Hi DJ,

I hear you. The parent version would be corresponding major version as in 10.0, 10.5 and 10.6 would be the parent versions.

You will get more clarity on the SU's with the below:

What all are considered as Presumed Qualified ?

1. All the ES of a CUCM Release shall be considered as Presumed Qualified with UCCX if the corresponding SU version of  the CUCM release is qualified/Presumed qualified with UCCX, "UNLESS ANY PARTICULAR ES CUCM VERSION IS SPECIFICALLY CALLED OUT AND QUALIFIED NOT COMPATIBLE".

For (ex) If CUCM 8.5(1)SU1 is qualified with UCCX 8.5(1), then all ES of CUCM 8.5(1)SU1 is considered qualified with UCCX 8.5(1).

2. All the SU of a CUCM Release shall be considered as Presumed Qualified with UCCX if the corresponding Major/Minor versions of  the CUCM release is qualified/Presumed qualified with UCCX.

For (ex) If CUCM 8.5(1) is qualified with UCCX 8.5(1), then all SU of CUCM 8.5(1)SU1 is considered qualified with UCCX 8.5(1).

3. If a particular UCCX Version is qualified with a CUCM Version, then all the previous SUs and the Major version of the UCCX Release is considered as Presumed Qualified with that version of CUCM, "UNLESS ANY PARTICULAR EXCEPTION IS SPECIFICALLY CALLED OUT AND QUALIFIED NOT COMPATIBLE".

For (ex) if UCCX 8.5(1)SU1 is qualified with CUCM 8.5(1), then UCCX 8.5(1) and all SUs are considered qualified with CUCM 8.5(1).

So as long as we do not encounter exceptions with the compatibility the qualification still holds good for the traditional N, N-1 framework of CCX with CUCM which includes presumed qualification for all SU's and ES's on N and N-1.

If there any specific qualification issues, this will be called out in the compatibility matrix with a footer note.

Hope this helps!
