N5K options to upgrade from 5.1(3)NX(Y) or 5.2(1)NX(Y) to 7.1(4)N1(1)

Hi NXOS Gurus.
I'm planning upgrade to 7.1(4)N1(1) of the series of N5K switches running quite old images like mentioned in the tytle.
reading the release notes to target version (https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5500/sw/upgrade/714_N1_1/n5500_upgrade_downgrade_714_n1_1.html#69768) one can find Supported upgrade/downgrade paths section stating in the Table 2 Supported Upgrade and Downgrade Paths for Cisco NX-OS Release 7.1(4)N1(1) that minimum Current Cisco NX-OS Release must be in range 7.0(4)N1(1)—7.0(8)N1(1) in conjunction with Note: Note If you want to upgrade from a release, that is not listed in the “Current Cisco NX-OS Release” column in Table 2 under the “Supported Upgrade and Downgrade Paths for a Cisco NX-OS Release” section to the latest Cisco NX-OS release version, then you must first upgrade to a release that is listed in the “Current Cisco NX-OS Release” column and then to the latest release version.

Sounds like another one interim upgrade step, right?

But by reading the document further one can find section Upgrading from Cisco NX-OS Release 5.1(3)N2(1c) and Earlier Releases (Disruptive Upgrade) promissing the direct upgrade from the versions mentioned in this discussion tytle is quite possible but disruptive :)
Could somebody confirm last statement is correct?

Hi,

Please find the answer inline:

Yes.

5.1(3)N2(1) >> 5.2(1)N1(9a) >> 7.0(8)N1(1) >> 7.1(4)N1(1)

Please refer to tables 5 and 5 & 6 in the following links respectively:
 http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/release/notes/Rel_5_2_1_N1_1/Nexus5000_Release_Notes_5_2_1_N1.html
 http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5500/sw/release/notes/7x/Nexus5500_Release_Notes_7x.html

Could somebody confirm last statement is correct?

Its, correct but you don't wanna lose your config :) CSCul22703 . If you lost config, have these steps ready...

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5500/sw/upgrade/714_N1_1/n5500_upgrade_downgrade_714_n1_1.html#pgfId-771341

Hi man,

thanks for the response. In case of 5.1(3)N1(1a) (which is exact version in my case :) i was going to jump to 5.2(1)N1(7) somehow... because i've already figured out the path from latter... & it looks like 5.2(1)N1(7)>7.0(4)N1(1)>7.1(4)N1(1) beacuse according to https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5500/sw/upgrade/714_N1_1/n5500_upgrade_downgrade_714_n1_1.html#Supported%20Upgrade%20and%20Downgrade%20Paths%20for%20Cisco%20NX-OS%20Release%207.3(1)N1(1) Upgrade to NX-OS Release 7.1(4)N1(1) is possible from anything in range 7.0(4)N1(1)—7.0(8)N1(1). I selected oldes one :)

then according to https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5500/sw/upgrade/704_N1_1/n5500_upgrade_downgrade_704_n1_1.html#pgfId-769343 Upgrade to NX-OS Release 7.0(4)N1(1) is possible from 5.2(1)N1(7).
Anyway you have resolved the puzzle with 5.1(3)N1(1a) for me , so many thanks to u :)
