Hi Everyone,
We have 2 new 7821s that will be used to replace 2 old phones (6941). The old phones are configured as ephones as the following:
ephone-dn 8 dual-line
number 2020
label Mr. X
name Mr. X
call-forward max-length 4
call-forward busy 2201
call-forward noan 2201 timeout 30
timeouts transfer-recall 18
ephone-dn 12 dual-line
number 2323
label Ms. X
name Ms. X
call-forward max-length 4
call-forward busy 2201
call-forward noan 2201 timeout 30
timeouts transfer-recall 18
ephone 8
device-security-mode none
mac-address X
max-calls-per-button 2
type 6941
button 1:8
ephone 12
device-security-mode none
mac-address X
max-calls-per-button 2
type 6941
button 1:12
The 6941s are configured as ephones.
I tried to setup the new 7821s as ephones, but they are not supported (I run show ephone type, the 7821 is not listed there).
I tried adding the 7821s using ephone-type, but I could not figure out what to enter as details for them (device ID, lines to display...). Also, as I see here (pages 107-108): https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/command/reference/cme_cr/cme_d1ht.pdf, the 7821 is not included in the table, does this mean that it cannot be added as an ephone?
For now, I setup the 7821s in voice register:
voice register dn 21
number 2020
call-forward b2bua busy 2201
call-forward b2bua noan 2201 timeout 20
name Mr. X
label Mr. X
voice register dn 24
number 2323
call-forward b2bua all 2020
call-forward b2bua busy 2201
call-forward b2bua noan 2201 timeout 30
name Ms. X
label Ms. X
voice register pool 21
busy-trigger-per-button 2
id mac X
type 7821
number 1 dn 21
voice register pool 24
busy-trigger-per-button 2
id mac X
type 7821
number 1 dn 24
I do not know if what I did works, as I don't have much knowledge in this.
Is it possible to set the 7821s as ephones? And if yes how?
If not possible as ephones, how can I provide the same functionality as the previous 6941s?
Thanks in advance.

There are no ephones for SIP phones, ephones are only SCCP devices. The CME Admin guide has all of the proper configuration for adding SIP phones and you are on the right track.

Thanks you for your reply.
So for the following:
1- ephone-dn 8 dual-line
2- number 2020
3- label Mr. X
4- name Mr. X
5- call-forward max-length 4
6- call-forward busy 2201
7- call-forward noan 2201 timeout 30
8- timeouts transfer-recall 18
1- I cheched in the admin guide and dual line is only for SCCP (https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/manual/cmeadm/cmebasic.html#concept_BE87AC1AC0BC4258A07BB747979F4062)
5- This specifies the extension length to prevent users from dialing outside numbers correct? I tried to set this option but I could not find it in voice register dn.
6- and 7- The only option I have here is b2bua, hence I used b2bua for both options. Will these 2 lines in voice register work in the same way that lines 6- and 7- worked for 6941s?
8- There is no timeouts option in voice register. I saw in the admin guide that I can enable it in voice register global but this will be enabled for all users, we only want it for specific users. How do I go about this?
Thank you!

1- ok
2- if you check my first post, there is a 'timeouts transfer-recall 18' set for ephone-dn.
3- ok
4- yes I realized that there are several options for SCCP not available for SIP. Setting these options in telephony-service is not something I want to do because we dont want these options for all SIPs.
Can I ask if you know how to enable missed call notifications? Users of the new 7821s do not see a missed call notification on the main screen. Is this doable from console or where?
Thanks!

Phone firmware is sip78xx.11-5-1SR1-1 (not loaded to switch, this is from the Phone Information > Active load on the 7821)
Cisco IOS 15.4(3)M
From the compatibility matrix, IOS 15.4(3) should run CME 10.5, but going through the show run from the switch:
ip http server
ip http authentication local
no ip http secure-server
ip http timeout-policy idle 60 life 86400 requests 10000
ip http path flash:/CME8.8
it seems I have the GUI files for CME 8.8 correct?
I don't know if I have the same issue you're refering to; I can see the missed calls in 'recents', what I can't see is the notification.

Thank you! Despite how much I searched, I was not aware of that bug.
So it's either upgrade CME or downgrade the phones right?
I was reading the second post here: https://community.cisco.com/t5/ip-telephony-and-phones/ip-phone-78xx-firmware-downgrade-from-sip78xx-10-3-1-12-to/td-p/2792732
and it says that 7821s can only be downgraded for specific hardware revision numbers. How do I find the hardware revision number for the phones I have and how do I know if my revision number allows downgrade or not?
Thanks in advance.
