If you want some sort of automated message to be played on a device when press a button, that would require some custom development, that is not an out of the box feature.

The intercom just opens the audio channel for you to talk, and the other end listen to what you say.

No message to be played. Just need an Administrative Assistant to press the button and announce to the person on the other phone the information she needs to relay.

OK, then you would need to refer to the admin guide of what you use, CUCM or CME to get the config steps, you don't mention what you use.

We are using the CUCM 11.0

You can find all the related info by googling: cucm + intercom, there's even a video on the procedure.

We are running CUCM 11.01.22900-14

One more question about the intercom feature.

I followed your instructions and it is working correctly to enable the speaker when pressing the intercom line and speaking.

Is it possible for the person at the other end of the intercom to be heard by the person initiating the intercom? Two way intercom?

Hi there,

For the type of 2-way Intercom you are looking for, you don't really need all the config that the CUCM listed Intercom requires.

On the "Receiver" phone create a new DN (doesn't need to be a DID just any unused number) let's say you use DN 1277. Set it up on a spare line button/key and have it set to auto answer on speaker phone. Give it a Line text label of Intercom.

On the AA's phone create a new button with a Speed dial to 1277. Give it a Line text label of Intercom.

When the AA pushes the new Intercom button it will ring once at the "Receiver" phone and auto answer on speakerphone where the desired info can be announced and the receiver can acknowledge the info via speakerphone (two-way).

Cheers!
