911 over PRI

Hey guys,

I have a quick question regarding 911.  We have two PRI's at our home office and a couple of POTS on FXO.  For some reason we were setup for 911 to go out POTS instead of the PRI.  The only problem with this is, if 911 is dialed and then disconnected, 911 calls back and gets the front desk and not the phone that called.  So then the front desk is stuck trying to figure out which of the 200 emloyees in that building called 911.  My questions:

1. Why can't 911 go over the PRI so that caller ID is the DID that actually called 911.

2. How do most companies handle 911 call backs?

There is no reason why it cant go over the PRI, it all depends on you call routing.

Also you will need to think about what caller ID (ANI) you will send with your call, based on what you send out, 911 will return your call on.

So companies decide to send the phone's external phone number mask, some the main number.
