Abbreviated Dial on CME

My customer is running CME 8.6 with 7942/7962 phones.  The most recent info I can find on CCO (the CME admin guide) indicates that Abbr Dial softkey support is restricted to phones other than what he has.  However, when he uses the config shown below on a 7962, he does see the Abbr soft key when dialing on-hook, and can complete calls to speed dials 1-4.  Other calls go to the CUE pilot number.

I'm guessing that the soft key support only works for tags that are also mapped to phone buttons, but I;m not sure.  I have seen an older SOD doc that indicates Abbr would be supported on CME from 7.1.2 onwards, but I donl't know if that happened.  Can someone confirm exactly what is and what isn't supported on CME 8.6 with respect to 7960/40 phones and abbreviated dial?  Also, any road map if it is not supported now?

Here is the config that was used to test:

Some CME documents are confusing or even wrong, and you have to find things by yourself.

However, if you are waiting for something new to work on the old 7940/60, that will never happen.
