Hi,
I am working on a IP Telephony POC.
My client is asking me to get all the UC applicatons working on KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) from Red Hat.
I do not if this is every tested by Cisco, has anyone done this before?
Is there a document which lists supported server virtualizaton hypervisors from different EOMs with Cisco UC applications?
One thing I am going to ensure that the recommended/below mwntioned hardware specs are adhered to for this POC.
Server Usage | VM OVA Capacity | VM OVA Parameters | Notes
vCPU Cores | Physical CPU Load was Calibrated To | vRAM | vDisk | vNIC

Cisco Unified Presence Server | 2000 Full UC Users | 1 vCPU (1500 MHz reserved) | 4 GB (with 4 GB reservation) | 1x 80 GB vHDD | 1 |

Will this POC work with Red Hat KVM or I will have to use ESXi for server virtualization?
Please suggest.

Have you reviewed these pages in detail:

Cisco has very stringent guidelines on how UC on UCS/VMware needs to be configured. I suggest you review this in detail.

Yes, that's true for any of the supported HW, TRC, TRC spec based or 3rd party spec based.
Roadmap questions cannot be addressed here, you need to submit those to your SE/AM

Chris,
Thanks for looking into this.
Here is what I see from the link which you provided.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
At this time, the only vendor supported for UC is VMware.
Other vendors/products - such as Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix Xen, Red Hat KVM - are not supported for Cisco UC virtualization.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
So I beleive this is also true for third party specs based servers as well.
Is there any roadmap for other virtualization vendors/products for UC?
Regards,
Nirmal

Other vendor servers are supporter as Spec Based, see this page for details:

Hi Guys, Are there any plans to support KVM in the near future?

As I already mentioned in the previous replies, forward looking questions are considered NDA material and cannot be discussed here. You would need to direct your question to your SE/AM.
That is in regards to UC apps that run on UCS and are listed here:
The only exception to that rule is CUE, which can run on KVM on IOS, and is not listed in the above doc.
