ATA-186 Firmware Upgrade

Hi,

I'm running into problems upgrading a brand new ATA-186 (supplied with SCCP v3.1.0 code ) to v3.2.3 code. I'm sure I've managed this before, as our existing ones are all running 3.2.3 code.

We are running UCM 7.1.3 and the Device default is set for 3.2.3 code, with the correct code available on the TFTP servers.

I've tried setting the tftp server addresses directly in the ATA web config, not setting them, adding the CM0&1 servers, and DHCP option 150 is set to give the two tftp server addresses out.

Every time I reset it with any of the changes above, either thorugh software, or with a power cycle. It just boots up and registers with UCM

Any ideas anyone?

good news is at least you got the ATA186 registered with cucm7.1.3.

Did you follow the steps at the following link to upgrade from 3.1 to 3.2.3?

Sounds like you have the correct image and device defaults on CUCM..did you restart tftp service?

Registering it with UCM was the easy part!!

Yes, I did look at the admin guide, but that document does not appear to have been updated since UCM migrated to a Linux platform, and seems to be for UCM 3 & 4 only.

I'm reluctant to go down the manual upgrade route, but that may be my only option...

Hi Allistair

Try upgrading to another release first, and then upgrade from that to the current release.

I have issues sometimes upgrading device loads to the latest versions, and sometimes this resolves the problems. Also check if there on the bug toolkit for similar issues and workarounds.

I had a similar problem upgrading from 3.2.3 to 3.2.4 on CUCM 5.  3.2.3 did not work very well with our Toshiba faxes - they showed large numbers of dropped and errored packets on session startup, and the fax dropped out. After much wailing and nashing of teeth, TAC came up with a fix, which was:

Generate the atadefault.cfg which also includes a load information, and
save this file to TFTP network locale path, for example
"\United_States\atadefault.cfg".
ATA will try this file if it cannot get cnf.xml.

Please follow the procedure below then:

1. Upload the "atadefault.cfg" file to the "united_states" locale
directory.

    a.  Login to the CM at:  https:///cmplatform or
select "Cisco Unified OS Administration" from the Navigation menu.
    b.  Select Software Upgrades > TFTP File Management
    c.  Click Upload File.  The "Upload File" window pops up.
    d.  Fill in the fields as follow. 
              Uplolad File: atadefault.cfg
              Directory: united_states

         Use the Browse button to find the atadefault.cfg file or
specify the full path and file name.

    e.  Click Upload File button.
    f.   Click Close button.

2. Restart the TFTP server

    a.  Login to the CM at:  https:///ccmservice or
select "Cisco Unified Serviceability" from the Navigation menu.
    b.  Select Tools > Control Center - Feature Services
    c.  Select Cisco Tftp radio button in the "CM Services" section. 
    d.  Click the green arrow with a square (restart icon) at the top or
Restart button at
         the bottom to restart the TFTP server.  Click OK to any popup
window.
         The Status line at the top of the page should display "Cisco
Tftp Service Restarted Successfully."

3. Configure the ATAs to use the "united_states" locale directory when
requesting its configuration files.

    a.  Login to the CM at:  https:///cmplatform or
         select "Cisco Unified OS Administration" from the Navigation
menu.
    b.  Select Device > Phone.
    c.  Click the name of an ATA device
    d.  Set the Network Locale parameter to United States in the Device
Information section.

    For a single or very few ATAs, they may be configured manually by
using the above procedure. 
    For many ATAs, it is recommended to create a device pool with
Network Locale set to
    "United States" and then use the CM BAT tool to reconfigure them.

4. Reset the ATAs to request the atadefault.cfg file from the
united_states locale directory.
