i have a scenario
customer currently using 7816 x 2 as publisher and subscriber and want to upgrade on 8.6 with C200 M2 hardware
question is with minimum downtime should i do 6.1.2 on ucs restore the existing backup than 6.1.4 than 8.6.
when doing 6.1.2 first, have to upload any license or not (VM license) ??
any good document on this ... pls share
also UCS come with preinstalled EXSi or not ?? any idea

Hi Zubair,
Installing CUCM on UCS earlier than version 8.0.2 is not supported reference, hence you will have to first upgrade your exisintg CUCM to 8.0.2 on existing MCS box ( provided it supports CUCM 8.x, reference ), then take a backup & restore it on the freshly installed CUCM 8.0.2 on UCS. Then ultimately upgrade to 8.6.
UCS box doesnt come with ESXi pre-installed.

He agreed when presented. But this makes things confusing
Any guide to do so
Its means ucs doesn't support old versions. Wht abt the licenses when migrating to 8.0
This is what we agreed with customer after getting tac answer n now its somethng different. Seems community support is more strong thn TAC itself
Confused

Hi Zubair,
Sorry to see the confusion but concluding about TAC based on one case would be unfair.
Well, yes UCS ( which is meant to be used for virtualized deployment of UC apps ) is not supported for earlier versions than 8.x & the earlier reference confirms the same too.
License reissuing during hardware migration should not be a problem. Please work with licensing@cisco.com or Cisco TAC itself to get it done for you.

Scenario 1
what if i took one existing hardware 7816... make it as a publisher in offline mode, upgrade it to 6.1.4 to 8.6 ... again take the backup and restore on UCS ... is it possible to restore on freshly intalled VM
Scnario 2
ask customer tht we will install freshly, either to manually enter each and every profile, settings or via BAT export/ import
is it possible ?
hope you understand my point of view
