Caller ID - Calling Name

ppatel
Level 1
Level 1

Hello,

Environment:

Call Manager 5.1

MGCP gateways

AT&T local PRIs

Qwest LD PRIs

Phones are a mix of 7941s, 61s and 70s.

Will provide more environment info if needed.

Issue: We're able to see calling number just fine but not able to see calling name. I've checked with the AT&T telco and they've verified calling name is on our circuits. Getting confirmation from our LD provider, but they're initially saying calling name is not support on LD PRI circuits. Either way, my DID is on the AT&T circuit and all I get is number, not name. Any configuration that needs to be done for us to see it?

The exact format depends by the switch. You can see a display IE or a complicated "networking extension". The CM however understand them all.

First of all enable "debug isdn q931" and "term mon", and check what you're getting actually.

If name is not there, there is nothing that you can do to have it appear, as it's all in the hands of the telcos.

Ran my debug and placed a test call and below is what I have. So basically what you're saying is if I'm not even seeing a "Calling Name" field, then the telco isn't sending it? Shouldn't I at least a "Calling Name" field that's blank??

Correct, you are not given a name at all.

And is not mandatory to have a "display IE" for the name, to the contrary it would be strange to have it and be blank.

Once telco will start sending a name, it will appear on the phones.

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!

Once the telco starts sending it, will I also see "Calling Party Name" in debug isdn q931?

The exact format depends by the switch. You can see a display IE or a complicated "networking extension". The CM however understand them all.

What PRI protocol are you using? NI2 is the norm that will support CID w/ Name. I don't believe DMS100 (NI1) will support it.

So I opened a case with AT&T and they confirmed that Calling Name is on our circuits but isn't working as it should. They escalated it on their end and now we're able to see it. Thanks!
