We have a problem at one of our customer sites where they can call locally, but not fax. The faxes are connected directly to the gateway via FXS ports, and the PRI is connected in the same gateway. It is h.323 and we have all the dialpeer statments we need. We can also call out using a phone, but not using a fax. Running a debug ( dialpeer debug and isdn q931 debug) we get this we they take a fax off hook:
PRI_2811#
*Jan 27 19:55:07.497: //-1/xxxxxxxxxxxx/DPM/dpAssociateIncomingPeerCore: Match Rule=DP_MATCH_PORT;
And then nothing. They dial 6 digits, then they hear a busy signal.
Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Hi,
Can you call the fax number from any phone in your system.

When you go offhook and dial numbers with an analog phone and offhook with a fax machine, there should be 0 difference.
Can you try a normal voice call with the fax machine? Most allow this.
Something else is going on.

I am sorry, I was unclear before. We can dial local with VOIP phones, but not the faxes. They do not have an analog handset, and I know that that would be the best test. I just wanted to make sure that the config was correct and that this should work. The number they are calling is: 419-542-XXXX.
Here is the dialpeer config:

Most fax machines, though they may not have a handset, will have a hook/flash, speaker, or other monitor button (such that you could monitor the line).

Actually, we found the issue. We had a translation rule, and it was applied to the fax dial peers. Once we removed this (since we didn't need it on that dialpeer) everything worked fine.

I know this may sound odd, but have you checked line and ring voltage coming out of the FXS port? We have had significant problems in our organization with fax and other modem devices. What we discovered was a problem with line voltage. This was most often seen coming of the VG248, but we did we it on FXS ports as well. If you don't have a volt meter, I us a PE830 from Tempo which is a ButtSet and VoltMeter together.
