Change "Alternate TFTP" setting to "no" on phone

Hi All,

I have several phones on couple of my clusters which have "Alternate TFTP" setting set to "Yes" and TFTP Server 1 and 2 are defined.

Now i want to change "Alternate TFTP" setting to "No", so phones can take TFTP server IP address from DHCP.

Regarding above, i have couple of queries:

- is it possible to generage a report which shows phone details which has above settings

- is it possible to change above setting remotely in bulk(manually would not be possible as i am not aware of which all phones have above settings and where are these phones located)

Thanks in advance.

No, neither CUCM or CME pull that info in reports, they report on what they have configured.

You would need a 3rd party app that actually looks into every phone to do that, and no, there's no way to bulk change this.

Thanks Jaime.

One 3rd party tool now i know is PhoneView, would you like to suggest any other such software ?

Hi,

You can use PhoneView from UnifiedFX (http://www.unifiedfx.com) to gather the AltTFTP information, TFTP Server1 & 2 details as well as export this and a lot more details about each device.

In addition you can use the bulk macro capability to send the appropriate key presses to 'clear' out the AltTFTP setting remotely on as many phones as you like remotely. As an example one of our customers recently updated 52,000 IP Phones in a single 4 hour change window.

Thanks

Thanks Stephen for your inputs.

Was the second part of above done by PhoneView (use of bulk macro capability) ?

Yes,

Here are a couple of videos:

This gives an general overview of the product and some of the things it can do:

This is an general overview that includes recording and replaying a macro command:

Note: We also have a built-in model independent macro for changing TFTP settings, so you shouldn't need to record any macros if it's just changing the AltTFTP setting

so how much would PhoneView cost me for the product and license purchase.  i have couple of cluster with around 7000 end points.

From the PhoneView website, i can see free version can be used only for 50 phones which i believe would be randomly selected.

Hi,

Best to contact our sales team: sales@unifiedfx.com for pricing

Correct, the Lab Edition limits to the first 50 phones from the cluster, its design to be used on small lab/test environments, i.e. students studying for their CCIE.

Thanks

Since this is a one time thing to change out your TFTP settings...you could ask Variphy and do your bulk changes for free for your entire cluster...just tell them you're coming from the Cisco Support Forum.
