Hi all, tried to reduce the inline power from 12.0 W to 6.3W for cisco IP phone 7965, it works fine and save a bit electricity, but does this might have any nagtive impact on the phone?  also is it OK to connect 7965/45 to class2 switch, which provides the 6.3w only. cheers

I', not sure if that's supported on the 7965 Phones.

On other phones such as 7970 there is a "low power" mode. Where the display is a bit less bright than in "normal mode".

According to the document below  cisco 7965 phones need 802.3ad Class 3 POE, therefore it would not be ok to connect it to a class2 switch.

Edit:

Well I've just found another document where it points out clear you have to give it "full power". However the switch will only provide the power which the phone actually needs (max 12W)

hi Slashdots, thanks for the reply.  just a quick update. after more than month, my 7965 still working fine at 6.3 watts, so we can conlcudes that it ok to run the on 6.3w, the screen is less bright though.  I will update once I get an class 2 switch for testing result. R
