Hi guys,
I installed CUCM 8.6 and configured a couple of phones. However, both are stucked in Upgrading step after factory reset. Below are the steps that I did:
1. DHCP server, DHCP subnet.
2. 2 phones.
3. IP Helper on voice VLAN interface pointing on CUCM.
I checked the connection between router and CUCM server and it works fine. What else should I check?
Thank you.

Hi,
According to below doc, to upgrade from 8.2 to the latest version, first upgrade the firmware to 8.5(2). Once phone succesfully downloads it, upgrade to 9.4.2
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/firmware/8_5_2/english/release/notes/7900_852SR1.html#wp57602
Also, try deleting ITL files to avoid any issues with signed files

Sudheer

Hi there,
You would need to use the .cop listed below instead of the SR1 version;
cmterm-7970_7971-sccp.8-5-2.cop.sgn
Firmware Upgrade Issues for SCCP
Note For all SCCP firmware upgrades from firmware release versions earlier than 8.3(3) to version 8.5(2)SR1 or greater, you must first upgrade your firmware to version 8.5(2). Once you have upgraded to version 8.5(2), you can upgrade your IP Phone to version 8.5(2)SR1 or later.
Cheers!

OK guys, I tried to upload older firmware for my 7970 IP phones. However, when I proceeded to restarting TFTP service it turned out that none of services wasn't activated. I activated all of them and dynamic IP configuration works fine. Nevertheless, my phones didn't start work and now they stucked on Registering step. At the same time I can't see older version of firmware for 7970 on CUCM Administration-Device-Device Settings-Device Defaults page.
The command file list tftp SCCP70* shows that older firmware was uploaded. Please be kind to give a hint as to how to make it firmware by default?

Hi,
CUCM Administration-Device-Device Settings-Device Defaults shows default firmware which you would like the phone to download. Usually we specify latest firmware here. If you would like to update the device defaults with older firmware, search for the SCCP70* firmware in TFTP as you did and then put the older firmware in device defaults without .loads extension.
If you would like to downgrade only one 7970 phones, then you can open that phone in CUCM and mention the firmware name in 'Phone Load name". The phone load name has higher precedence than the device defautls.

Tried 4 versions of firmware: cmterm-7970_7971-sccp.8-2-1.cop.sgn, cmterm-7970_7971-sccp.8-5-4.cop.sgn, cmterm-7970_7971-sccp.9-3-1SR3-1.cop.sgn, cmterm-7970_7971-sccp.9-4-2SR1-1.cop.sgn. IP phones could upgrade but every time stucked on Registering step. They couldn't upgrade only with the last firmware (with error Authentication Failed). Unfortunately I have no other models of IP phones to check.
Even though I got "The installation of Cisco Unified Communications Manager has completed successfully" is it possible that the reason of my issue is CUCM incorrectly installed?

Hi Sudheer,
Thank you for your message. It was really helpful when setting up new phones. I don;t know what was the version of firmware on other phones but I used cmterm-7970_7971-sccp.8-5-2SR1.cop.sgn and the upgraded to this one firmware. However, the first two still stuck, but this time they stuck on the same step of Upgrading with message Auth Fail. I tried to make factory default reset but it didn't help.
Update: I have the same issue on CUCM 8.6.2. Several of my 7970 phones stucked on Upgrading step with the same Auth Fail error. I resolved it this way. I downloaded and then uploaded cmterm-7970_7971-sccp.8-2-2SR4.cop.sgn firmware which my phones agreed to upgrade to. But now they don't want to upgrade to cmterm-7970_7971-sccp.8-5-2SR1.cop.sgn.
Could you please give an advice as to how to solve this issue.
Thank you.

Hi,
I am trying to switch from SIP to SCCP on my 7970g phones. As our PBX is Asterisk, i am using tftp for that purpose, but getting errors. Everywhere i look, it says that i need version 8-5-2 to do it.
Now usually i go to Cisco downloads and simply download the firmware, but they have closed downloads for 7970g.
Any chance that you've got SCCP 8-5-2 for 7970g lying around? Been searching around without any luck, and is now getting desperate :-(
Thanks!

I too wish Cisco would put all the 7900 series sccp 8.5.2 back in the general downloads. Especially with a known bug requiring that ios version for just about any phone factory defaulted in that line.
I'm in the same boat. No cco account and need a no longer hosted firmware from 2011.
Anyone who can tell me where I can get my hands on sccp 8.5.2 for 7970, I'm all ears.
Thanks in advance.
