I have the Cisco IP communicator installed on my PC. I use it extensively when working from home. Mostly it works fine. I start up the PC, I connect to the VPN, the communicator then finds my settings and it works. Sometimes it just shows "configuring IP" continuously. I can exit and restart, I can shut down the PC and restart and it makes no difference. The next day I log on and it works.
Where should I start looking to fix this problem. I am just an enthusiastic user, I am not an IT professional.
I have version 8.6.1.0 installed
Any suggestions appreciated

Hi John,
Please check if you are signing into the system with admin rights. Ideally it requires a packet capture from the PC while the issue is seen to see where exactly the issue is. So, if you experience the issue next time, get a packet capture from the PC using wireshark after launching CIPC until it gets stuck on Configiring IP and post it here.

I do not have admin rights to the PC, is that what you mean.
What I have noticed on two occasions is the following
I start the PC
I connect via VPN
I start the ip communicator
It shows "Configuring IP" endlessly
I reset the wireless router
When the router comes back on the communicator still shows configuring IP
The VPN reconnects automatically then the IP Communicator connects correctly with no action on my part
Does this help pinpoint the issue?

Confirm the network reachability before opening the communicator
check ip config and that you can ping your CUCM

Thanks for the response. I have forwarded to my IT team

The latest situation:
When I got the issue I pinged the two servers we use and found I was able to access both
I figured out a work around. Each time I get the issue I disconnect the Wifi and then re-connect. the phone then registers.
This worked fine for a while but now I see a different issue. I start the PC, I connect to the VPN. When connected I open the communicator. Communicator shows "Configuring IP" I disconnect the Wifi and then reconnect, the communicator then shows "Registration failed" and eventually returns to "configuring IP"
This issue is so frustrating as everything was working fine with the communicator and now it just won't work at all.

Hi,
A packet capture is needed to pinpoint the issue. You can also download the CIPC problem report when the issue is experienced but that may not provide exact info for such an issue.
