Cisco IP Phone 7945 just died today

I assume this Cisco IP Phone 7945 committed suicide after about five years of operation, but I will just post here and ask.

Today I am sitting at my desk and suddenly I see the phone start power cycling or rebooting all by itself. I'm not using it and there are no incoming calls. The screen blanks and the lights flash across the bottom (Headset / Mute / Speaker), then the Extension lights next to the screen flash, and it starts up. Then after 60-120 seconds, it suddenly resets and does this again. And again. And again.

I tried unplugging the ethernet and plug it back in, and now it's acting different, and worse. The lights flash across the bottom, but now the Speaker button stays lit continuously.

Tried the reset maneuver (hold # at startup) but it's not doing anything after the Speaker light turns on solid:

I assume that the hardware has died. (Probably swelled capacitors as is usual for electronics.)

I guess this $400 phone is disposable now? Does anyone fix these? (I'll keep the handset as a spare.)

Might want to test it by plugging into a different switch port.

If you have a valid contract you can open a TAC case and get it replaced. Otherwise, yes it is disposable.

Hi Dale,

Look hardware has failed. If you have Smarnet request a RMA to Cisco, they will replace the phone  at no cost.

Regards
