Hi Gents,
Just a question regarding a future deployment of Cisco IPT solution. They have old HP Switches that doesn't support LLDP.
In order to configure Voice VLAN & Data VLAN on HP Access port, I need to set up a 802.1Q trunk between Phone and HP port with Voice & Data VLAN.
And I need to configure manually the IP Settings on my phone.
Is that right?
Many thanks for your return.
Regards
Thibaut

Hello Thibaut,
It is right. Actually on the switch the ports should be trunks as you mentioned not access.
If you will not connect PC behind the phones you may not use trunks just the vlan for the voice.
You will need PoE for the phones and if it is not supported on the switch also it depends on the type of the phones (e.g. 7940 needs pre-standard then you will need power cube or switch that support it) maybe you may think about new Cisco switches which also will save you a lot of time when you setup the phones manually.
HTH,
Alex

hi
watch out for vendor specific terms
an hp trunk = cisco port group
a cisco trunk does not have an hp specific names/
cisco adds vlans to a port
hp adds ports to a vlan , like juniper does
if you put your phones behind an hp switch CDP will fail
