Cisco phones won't power up

Colin Higgins

I have cisco 6945 phones connected to two Catalyst 6513-E switches in a VSS pair.

This morning, 3 phones went offline on one of the blades on switch two (they went dark).

When I do a show module, everything checks out fine --no errors on the blade. Diagnostics pass. If I connect a laptop to the ports having the issue, the system connects, fetches an IP and everything is fine. Tried different phones, cabled in directly, etc. -phones won't power.

Here is the power info for the port(s) and blade/switch:

Just want to put it out there that I am no "expert" on what a 61XX line card can/can't do.

Can you try to run a TDR on the line?

1.  Command:  test cable tdr interface g2/2/15;

2.  Wait for 61 seconds for the test to run;

3.  Command:  sh  cable tdr interface g2/2/15; and

4.  Post the output to #3.

NOTE:  Yes, it takes 61 seconds to run a TDR on a chassis-based system.

Do you have other PoE devices you can test with? e.g. an AP or similar?

After I physically reset the blade, the problem went away. Didn't get a chance to do the tdr test, but that is good reference for the future. Not sure what caused the problem to begin with.
