Configuring a shared DN on multiple phones, for announcement with autoanswer feature.

Dear All,

I need to configure a paging/ intercom system, where a receptionist is able to speed dial an extension number which is received and answered automatically on speaker phone by a group of (15-20) secretaries.

Below please find my attempts:

1. Setting an intercom: It was successful for one to one call. However, when I tried to use the same intercom number for a different phone I receive the error, saying that this is not possible.

2. Setting a single DN on multiple phone lines with auto answer in speaker mode. When I dialed the common extension, the multiple phones did ring once as expected but then only on one phone was the announcement was heard through the speaker, the other lines went into busy state.          

I want to setup one extension to ring on multiple phones at the same time with the capability to auto answer the call using the phone's microphone for announcements. I am running CUCM version 9.1.

Please do you have any suggestions how I should tackle this? Please Help

Hi Josef,

The feature that you are looking for is actually the paging feature. There was no native support for paging on CUCM until recently when Cisco started shipping Informacast with every new order of CUCM 9.1 and  BE6000.  Additionally, the BE6000’s UCS C220 server come pre-loaded  the InformaCast software.   This software is also available for downloadhttp://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284510097&catid=278875240&softwareid=282074295&release=9.1%281%29&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest

for deployments running CUCM 8.5 and higher (for customers with a valid ESW contract).

Hi Manish,

Thanks for your reply, in fact I was considering the paging solutions, but didnt manage to find much information about it, need to dig deeper.

Correct me if I'm wrong, the basic paging license is free. A license needs to be purchased if you require Advanced paging?

I tried the third party paging device but I encountered two issues:

1. The main reception phone is 9951 which is not a supported model according to the link provided

2. Intercom DNs cannot be shared since this is not allowed.

At the moment I am installing the Appliance as a new VM on the server and will take it from there.

However, please if you have any other suggestions please forward

Did you find out the solution. Does informacast supported this feature?, As per my knowledge informacast will announce announcements, but not able to answer calls. I am also looking for this feature.

Informacast is a one way audio announcement, not sure what you're looking for.
