Hi everyone,
I wanted to know how to configure G729. We have problem dialing some external number from our network and we are getting this message " We're sorry your call cannot be connected at this time. Please try your call later)." When we checked with our voice carrier, it appears that we have only codec G711 configured on our network and we need G729 in addition to that in order to be able to dial some external numbers. So how can we achieve that? is it transcending from G711 to G729 across the WAN or what ?
Is the configuration done in the router or CUCM or neither ?

You did not specify what type of trunk you are using, but assuming it is either H323 or SIP add the following codec profile and then assign it to dial-peers:
voice class codec 1
codec preference 1 g711ulaw
codec preference 2 g711alaw
codec preference 3 g729r8
dial-peer voice 101 voip
voice-class codec 1
However, the announciator message is unlikely because of codec mismatch. Please provide more details as to what device is calling who, i.e. outside PSTN number and what type of PSTN connectivity do you have.

In CUCM you control that by using regions, default is G711 between same region and G729 to other regions but you can change that.
There's no way to answer your question about the WAN as there are no details of how you have this configured, you need to find that out by looking at your configuration.
