CP-6871 traffic to Cisco

It seems our CP-6871 phones are constantly communicating with Cisco (Cisco Collaboration Media), and generating about 12GB of traffic per month. Is there a setting to prevent/turn off that traffic?

Thanks,

Matt

Hi there,

What do you mean Collaboration media? can you give me some examples? What version are you using?

Thanks

Hi Matt,

Is that phone registered on prem or on Webex?

Let us know

Hi Carlo,

Our provider Comcast classified the traffic as Colloboration Media, and reported us the heavy usage. In any case that extra traffic (>10GB) is not SIP or RTP - those are usually a couple of GB per month. Only CP-6871 phones generate that extra traffic. We have older SP508G phones and their monthly usage is under 2GB.
These phones are MPP and register to our own servers.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi  Matt,

What kind of extra traffic is reporting your provider?

How many 6871 have you deployed?

Which firmware version are they running?

They are probably contacting Cisco Cloud (HTTPS) to  check if they can register there or if there is an available firmware to upgrade.

It would be useful if you can capture traffic from one phone and analyze it through wireshark.

If you can, you could share here a pcap capture of one of your 6871 phones.

Please let me know

Regards

Carlo
