Hii,
I have 2 UCS from Cisco with 3 virtual machine ( 1 PUB - 1 SUB - 1 VoiceMail)
I will write the steps in order to make the upgrade, pls write if I miss something or I am wrong.
1. I will update on cucm8.6 all the device to firmware supported in cucm 10.5
2. Prepare the Cluster for downgrade ( true)
3. Make a back-up of the database
4. Write the Service activation in Pub/Sub
5. Update the Pub ( no restart) then update Sub ( no restart). After i go to PUB ( restart) then Pub (restart)
My question is where can I find some information (steps/checklist) in order to be prepared for worst case scenarios and if my steps are ok for migration.
Or to make a clone of my Pub and moved to another Vlan and Power on and do the upgrade and add some device to see if everything works fin???
Thanks a lot for REPLAY

You should update firmware for only the phones you have running in your cluster. So yes for these phones install the COP file that corresponds to the firmware version that will be running in your 10.5
Prepare cluster roll back was for pre 8.0 clusters that did not use SBD (security by default). You don't need it for 8.6

Hi.
The best way should be to make a backup of current config through DRS.
Install a virtual machine with actual CUCM version in a separate VLAN (Using same Hostname and IP address), restore from DRS and upgrade directly to 10.5.
There you can test some phones and , in case of success, you can just change the VLAN and put online the new installation and shutdown actual CUCM Cluster.
In case of roolback just light up again the actual CUCM cluster and shut the other or put on a different VLAN.

Hi,
for the upgrade procedure, kindly find the below.
-make sure you have the media for version 8.6 (installation and recovery cd)
- take backup for version 8.6
-upload the ciscocm.version3-keys.cop.sgn before upgrade.
- proceed with the backup. check the md5 checksum
- after switching the version to 10.5 take backup.
- shut down the pub and sub, change the guest OS to Redhat Linux 6 64 bit.
-Turn on the servers.
-apply the security patches for shellshock bug
One more thing regard the licensing.
don't forget to add all the PAKs. if you don't add them you will lose them.
also you need to run License Count Utility (LCU)

Hi.
As you know, license is validated based on License MAC which is calculated considering IP Address , Hostname, NTP , DNS an so on.
If you change one of those parameters, you will have a grace period of 60 days to have the time to rehost your license (you can easily do through license portal www.cisco.com/go/license just finding your license and selecting "rehost/migrate license")
During this period all works correctly except for upgrades.
So if you are confident with license rehosting you can proceed at that error message.

Ciao Carlo,
The problem with clone is i have the same ip and when i go with GUI on cucm i make the change on the old pub. Maybe i have to power off the old pub and power on the clone and connect to new machine???
Sorry bet i am confuse and i think i can have problem with licence if i make any changes on the clone.

Hi.
As I suggested, put the new CUCM on a different VLAN just for the period to change the IP Address.
Put your PC on the same VLAN and assign a static IP to it
Than access to the new CUCM, change IP Address and put it back to the Production VLAN.

Hey Guys,
I receive the all packages from my subcontractor.
I tray to update my cucm8.6 in home Lab but after 10 hours still installing. My question is what is the proper sequence in order to make update from those files:
- ciscocm.version3-keys.cop.sgn
- UCSInstall_UCOS_UNRST_10.5.1.11901-1.sgn.iso
- cucm_10.5_vmv8_v1.8.ova
- ciscocm.refresh_upgrade_v1.5.cop.sgn
- ciscocm.free_common_space_v1.1.cop.sgn

I have recently done this in my lab in preparation from 8.6 to 10.5
1.Apply ciscocm.version3-keys.cop.sgn (no reboot required)
2.Apply UCSInstall_UCOS_UNRST_10.5.1.11901-1.sgn.iso
3.If it says there is not enough room on the common partition then apply
ciscocm.free_common_space_v1.1.cop.sgn then back to step 2.
4.Reboots twice , should be done in a couple of hours
switch version
5.Check if partition is aligned. If so edit the ova following the instructions in the readme in ova template
6.If not backup, create new vm using cucm_10.5_vmv8_v1.8.ova and restore
7. Done :-)

Mark (+5)
Two things to comment on in the steps highlighted above..
3.If it says there is not enough room on the common partition then apply
ciscocm.free_common_space_v1.1.cop.sgn then back to step 2.
+++++
This should not be the first option if you get a not enough space error. This is because this COP file wipes out your previous CUCM version. Hence you will not be able to switch back to your old version of CUCM. For me in a production environment, that is a HUGE risk.
There are other measures that can be taken to free up more space in the common partition. One of such is deleting log files and the other is reducing the amount of traces on the system by lowering the low and high watermarks in the Cisco Log Partition Monitoring Tool.
+++++
6.If not backup, create new vm using cucm_10.5_vmv8_v1.8.ova and restore
+++++
It looks like there is a need to build a new VM using 10.5 ova even if partition is aligned. This is because the requirement for CUCM10.5 is " 1 (110GB)vdisk" whereas 8.6 runs on 2 (80GB) vdisk"
Since there is no way to re-size the disk size, it looks like the only way to achive the vdisk requirement is to rebuild the VM. I am not sure Cisco will support a 10.5 VM running with two 80GB vdisk.

Hii,
I make the ISO bootable and i manage to instal with Ova from Cisco.
I have another problem because after I upload to cucm8.6:
ciscocm.free_common_space_v1.1.cop.sgn
UCSInstall_UCOS_UNRST_10.5.1.11901-1.sgn
It remains at page from attachment even I click on Next. I check on cucm8.6 the show version active ( I have cucm8.6/device pack 8.6/ciscocm.version3-keys.cop.sgn ) and on show version inactive no information ( no Inactive side availabel)
Any ideas why????

Hi.
Try to reboot the server and try to install again.
Before that please execute utils system upgrade status and post the result.

Hi,
Pls see attachment
I update ciscocm.free_comm_space_v1.1.cop and i receive the error from attachment. I don't understand why because I have a partition of 140 Gb.
Maybe that why i can update to Cucm10.5

There is nothing wrong with that message. You need a minimum of 25GB in your common space partition and you have more than that so you don't need to install that cop file.
