CUCM license expired, would SRST kick-in

Hi,

If CUCM temp license expires and callmanager service is not starting up, would the remote branch phones go into SRST?

Any documentation explaining this behavior would be highly appreciated.

CUCM version 6.

Thanks in advance,

Kapil Atrish

Hi Kapil and Alex.

Since SRST reference is downloaded by the phones with their configuration, once phone cannot reach the cucm they try to register to the srst Gateway so, if the callmanager service goes down for expired license , branche phones should go  in fallback mode.

One of my customers had the same situation in the past and he noticed me that all branch office were in fallback mode.

Hi,

If the CUCM CallManager Service has gone down then it

will no longer be servicing keep-a-lives from the the phones.

The phones will then register with SRST provided the SRST address is in their CallManager list

in the phone settings

Hey Alex,

I appreciate your quick response.

I believed the same but few folks in Cisco think otherwise.

Do you by any chance have a link to any Cisco document which may explain this?

Thanks,

Hi,

That was what I thought.

When the temp licence runs out it stops the CallManager Service.

I am not sure if it deles all the phone etc a short time before that.

I am sure some of our Cisco colleagues may comment.

I suppose you could stop the Call Manager Service a couple of days before the license runs out to test.

Hey Folks,

Interesting discussion here for sure +5 to both Alex and Carlo!

We have always disconnected the WAN connection to test SRST but I had

always thought you could shut down the Callmanager service as well to kick off

the SRST registration??

One doc seems to indicate this as well;

When the WAN link or Cisco Unified Communications Manager service is restored,

Cisco Unified Communications Manager resumes call-handling capabilities.

From this SRST doc;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6788/vcallcon/ps2169/data_sheet_c78-520521.html

Cheers!

Rob

Let me give the confirmation to all.

Client had 9 locations and his expectation was that all 9 locations should have gone into SRST. I reviewed there configuration and realized out of 9 only 3 locations have SRST configured and the gateway logs at those locations do show that SRST worked successfully.

So to summarize, yes the SRST works when CUCM license expires.......

Thanks for all the time you guys spent on this one.

Thanks,
