Hi,
Is it ok to run a CUCM manual backup in the daytime without affecting the user service?

Phil

It is recommended to take all the backups in OFF bussiness hours as while taking maunal backup there is a little spike on CPU load.
If the configuration and registration count is not so much on the CUCM then you can take the backup in daytime as well.

Thank you all that replied. What I take from this is to do normal backups out of hours but be aware I could run one in normal hours if it was urgent but there is a risk it could affect the server(s).

You can also schdule the backup daily/weekly/ or monthly by selceting days and time.
For example if you have off hous during saturdays and sunday you can schdule automatic backup. This will reduce your manual efforts.

Phil,
As you may already know its recommended by Cisco to normally run scheduled backup services off-peak hours to avoid any potential problem. But if you run a manual DRS backup during the day time under for any compelling reason, although not recommended, it will not kill anything, you will see some CPU spikes, but I have never experienced any issues even with big clusters due to a DRS backup running.

Tip
Schedule backups during off-peak hours to avoid call-processing interruptions and impact to service.

Hi Terry,
This is the reason we are advising to take the backups in non production hours to avoid any impact, if the load gets high on the CPU it may impacts to the server in the form of call processing,
During the time of backup if others services are also running on CUCM and the load on the server gets high for sometime it may lead to restart as well.
Thanks,
Jaspreet
