Hello All,
I am planning to upgrade cucm 9.1.2 to 10.5.2. I know this will be direct upgrade and requires a reboot but I want to know what possible issues could occur while upgrading. And how the licenses will be moved from ELM to PLM?? Will we have to open a tac case for rehosting the licenses from ELM to PLM after the upgrade??
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hi Uday,
Yes, you need to contact the licensing team in TAC to rehost the license. I will recommend you to check the guide below and have a current DRS backup in case you need it.

Just adding to what Tere has posted.
Make sure you apply all the COP files, esp the one dealing with Hash Algo, else the 10.x media will not be recognized.
Regarding Licenses, I usually go the route of using the License Portal (under cisco.com/go/support and Product Upgrade Tool) and request PAK for the new Licenses
Once you get the PAK, you can easily generate the Lic file either directly from PLM (that is if your CCM can access Internet) else you can generate a file request and get it fulfilled by raising a License SR
More over, once the upgrade make sure you check the OVA template for 10.5.2 and compare it with that of your existing OVA Template and make any changes that are necessary (but please do NOT make any changes to the HDD)
Most importantly, make sure you have the latest DRS Backup
All the best

Thanks a lot Tere and Wilson.
Regarding the licenses, do we have to request PAK licenses before the upgrade or after the ugprade
Thanks

1. Question on upgrading CUCM and IM&P.
First upgrade CUCM pub(but no switch version)then upgrade CUCM sub(but no switch version), now switch version on CUCM pub and once it is up, then switch all CUCM subs??
2.When to do IM&P upgrade??
3. I think Unity connection can be done any time, but what about licenses, while rehosting the licenses we get demo licenses for CUCM, then what about CUC licenses??

Hi Uday,
To answer first question ,it is fine.
Once u finish the upgrade to CUCM 10, u get grace period for 180 days in PLM.During this period, u need to get the permanent licenses.
To get the same, prior to upgrading , u place the order through PUT [Product Upgrade Tol] to get all necessary Bootables and migration licenses for CUCM and UCXN.

Thanks Aman.
Even for upgrading for CUCM 9.1.2 to 10.5.2?? You mean rehosting the licenses prior to the upgrade??
When to do the IM&P upgrade and what about CUC licenses??

Yes, whenever there is a major version change (9.x to 10.x) you shall need licenses, however UCSS Contracts make you automatically eligible for licenses :-)
IMP can be upgraded once the CCM Pub has been upgraded (with or without switched version to CCM 10.x)
CUC licenses are traditionally bundled with CCM contract so when you will use the PUT should see option to generate PAK file for CUC as well

Hi Uday,
Yes, you can first upgrade Pub (no switch version) and then all Subs (no switch version) and then switch version on Pub and then all the Sub.
IMP should be completed once the Pub has been upgraded (switched version or not on the Pub)
Adding to what Aman has posted, about licenses, you must use PUT tool on the Cisco Support website to generate all the required PAK and once you have PAK, you can use the PLM to get lic files

Once u finish the upgrade, share the generated PLM txt file to licensing team along with PAK and Sales Order Number so as to get permanent lic files.
same applies to Unity connection as well.
