How to enable option to listen to the call using both headset and handset at the same time in Cisco 7942

Hi

Please let me know how to enable option to listen to the call using both headset and handset at the same time in Cisco 7942. I am able to do the same in few cisco 7942 phones but not in other few. Not sure what is to be enabled to have this option.

Sugandh,

Under the Product Specific Configuration Layout section in device config in CUCM, you will see an option for Handset/Headset Monitor. The default is disable. Set this to enable and reset the phone.

Thanks for you valuable reply. But I am not clear on it. Is that mentioned in the 'settings' of the Cisco 7942 IP phone? I was not able to find the below said specific terms in the phone settings. Could you pls clarify your point a bit.

This option in is the Call Manager configuration of the phone, near the bottom of the page.

Thanks for the reply.

If it is not configured in the Call Manager, then no phones will be having the option right? But in this case some of our phones are having the option. I have checked the firmware versions of the phones and are found different for most of them. I have also noticed in general that the option is NOT working for phones with the firmware version SCCP42.8-X-XX  and working for SCCP41.8-X-XX. Does it mean that i need to downgrade the firmware version of the phone?

Just to add to what Adam has shared with you already:

1. You need to have firmware version 8.5(2)SR1 or later as stated in the "Cisco Unified IP Phone Release Notes for Firmware Release 8.5(2)SR1 (SCCP and SIP) 7975G, 7971G-GE, 7970G, 7965G, 7962G, 7961G-GE, 7961G, 7945G, 7942G, 7941G-GE, 7941G, 7931G, 7911G, and 7906G":

2. Be aware of this known defect: CSCtg89332 --> inconsistency with cucm and ip phone for handset/headset monitor param.

Thanks for the info.

I'll try upgrading the firmware of the phones and will get back to you. But just a thought, if it working in a lower version firmware and not working in higher version then should we try downgrading all to the same version?
