How do I go back to the call that I tried to transfer to someone who did not answer? I'm using Cisco 8811 phone. There is no button that says "Resume" or "Retrieve Call."  Help!!

If you think of it from the perspective that you initiate a second call for the call transfer it makes more sense. But yeah you’re right that I did not take any part of the outline of the UI of the phones.

Not to be picky, but the answer that you selected as the solution isn’t exactly what I would have thought that you would select as it’s not at all relevant to your question.

Once you have completed the transfer you will not be able to retrieve the call again.

I would not have completed the transfer because the person I'm transferring
to is on another call and doesn't answer. I need to be able to go back to
the call to tell the caller the person is unavailable.

Based on what you described it sounds like you’re doing a supervised transfer, then you’re not releasing the call, so in that case you can resume the original call.

This is what happens: I answer the call; (2) I hit "transfer" and dial the
ext; (3) I wait for the person to answer; (4) they don't answer because
they are on another call; (5) I can't go back to the call and take a
message of put the person in voicemail because there's no button that
allows me to go back to the call. I can tell the caller is still there
because the line is lit, but there's no "Resume" or "Swap" or "Retrieve"
button anywhere. I'm pressing any button to try to get the call back and
the voicemail starts to play. I hang up and I also hang up on the caller.

When you hang up the call to the intended transfer target you should get a Resume soft key showing up on the phone. Use that to retrieve the original call.

Ok. How do I "hang up" the call to the intended transfer?

Which button do I use to "end" the call in order to get the "Resume" button to show up?

Do as you normally do when you end a call. That should give you a resume button to retrieve/go back to the original call that was put on hold when you initiated the transfer.

Roger: Thank you so very much for your response. It worked. I'm sure you
didn't design the phone or put together the handout(s) on the phone, but
instead of "End Call" when the transferred call is not picked up on the
other end, the phone should say "End *Transfer*." "End Call" usually
implies you will end the original call. At any rate, thank you again.
