Hi team,
I am currently working on integratating CME with CUCM using H.323. I have read from a Cisco documentation
(http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/srnd/design/guide/intcmecm.html) that using SIP for integrating CME and CUCM has some issues and also SIP is still a Work In Progess and is not very much evolved. So, I have tested only H.323 and not even considered SIP.
I would like to know if this is still correct. Between H.323 and SIP, which is better for integrating CME and CUCM and why. Are there any known issues/limitations with using SIP here (as mentioned in the documentation)?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Suchitra

Thanks, Anand. The document does not talk about any major differences between H 323 and SIP in this context and also does not mention that H 323 is better than SIP.
Could you please let me know if you remember reading of any major differences between SIP and H 323 that make H 323 better for the integration?

Suchitra

Hi Suchitra,
I would say H323 is good protocol to get more function to work between CUCm and CME.
Below link shows the "General Design Considerations for Unified CM and Unified CME Interoperability via SIP "
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/7x/callpros.html#wp1044470
And the sectoin after that shows you the H.323 limitation.

For system integration SIP is actually easier and provides more benefits on the CUCM side. I don't think there are any significant issues on CME side as far as SIP trunk goes, I know there are still complaints with SIP phones on that side. So, my recommendation would be to do SIP, however if you already have H323 working I don't see a big reason to change that.

Chris
