Intercom Feature That is Not Muted

Hey All!

I have a very strange question regarding Intercom.

We have an Executive Committee member just join my company and he would like to have the intercom set up without it being muted when his assistant uses it. He wants it completely handsfree.

I know this defeats the purpose of the intercom and eavesdropping issues arise, but that's what he wants.

We thought maybe set up a speed dial to a dedicated line and set it to auto answer on the speaker of his 8861, but this will not work if he has a connected call on the phone at the time.

Does anyone have any suggestions before we tell him we cannot do this?

Thanks in advance for any responses!!

Vinny

Did you find a solution to your requirement ?

It may be possible via custom JTAPI based application.

You can write to info@parsec-tech.com

The only way I know how to do this is by not using the Intercom feature. (I do wish Cisco would allow some kind of checkbox to give us the choice about whether the microphone on the target phone is activated or not.)

The solution I have takes an extra button on each phone, but works:

  • Phone A: Set up one button as a speed dial to a DN on Phone B.
  • Phone B: Set up a button with that DN and set it to auto-answer with speakerphone. (This is the "Auto Answer" field on the DN.)
  • If you want the 'intercom' to go both ways, you'd use a second button on each phone to reverse the process.

This is messy and takes extra real estate on each phone, but is a successful solution.
